It's a windy, cloudy Easter morning, my thoughts are focused on all that's right with the world, which takes some mental gymnastics.....family who loves each other unconditionally, friends and family who are supported through the tough times and rejoicing in the good times, new plant shoots so green and full of life, budding trees, wind chimes signaling April....spring always renews hope and life to my soul, reminding me that out of the cold, icy trials life can bring, there is warmth, growth and revival. Love to all who read my blog.
While watching the world news yesterday with my 89 yr. old father, he commented that he was upset with all the violence in our world, all the hate and greed. He wondered why God doesn't just obliterate mankind, and speculates that maybe that is what all the natural disasters are about. My sister questions that, if God is all knowing and knew that man would sin and be as evil as we are, why he even bothered. Such large questions. If God created us to live with him, for him to pour out his love on us and vice versa, then why the free will and propensity toward narcissism? I used to believe that I understood it all, but the truth is, I don't. I do know one thing: I have a working relationship with God that is very like my human relationships - he (she?) and I fight, argue, listen to each other, cry together, and even though I don't believe God needs forgiving, he forgives me easily and often. I'm thinking I'm ok with the mystery of it all.
All I know is I need forgiving and the one who died for us all said "Father forgive them because they know not what they do" He didn't say forgive what they do, He asked our Father to give us. And He promises to forgive us for the ways we hurt him as we forgive those who hurt us. Seems all connected some how to what love really is suppose to be about.
